Minabe-cho is the hometown of Tanagokoro

It is located in the basin of Minabe Rriver which runs from the top of Toragamine peak near Ryujin-mura border to the southwest. In this warm, hilly countryside, Ubamegashi (Japanese Holm Oak / Quercus Phillyreoides) and Arakashi (Japanese Blud Oak / Quercus Glauca) are nurtured, and the tradition of charcoal making has been continued over a thousand years. Minabe-cho still is the country's top producer for binchotan and Ume (Japanese Apricot) and Ume-based products.
